RE: How To Build A Jet Engine
So
you want to build a jet engine? I know I did! There
are many ways to build them and of course there are many purposes for
them.
First
let me say - if you do not have some basic machine shop equipment like
a mill, lathe, etc... or don't have access to them, it will not be practical
for you to build a jet engine that is of a high quality like what I show.
This
package is not meant to be a full blueprint for you to build exactly but
is to give you the main steps and components that you need to consider
in building your own jet engine. If it was a blueprint, there is a slim
chance that the average builder will ever stick to it anyway. The variations
between the parts that are available are so great that you really do need
this as a guide and not a blueprint.
Even
if you don't have the tools and want to see how I made a jet engine, with
the help of a couple friends, then by all means, add this to your library
because there aren't many comprehensive walk throughs on building a "home
made" jet engine like you're going to see here.
You
can find many so-called tutorials online on all kinds of websites or discussion
forums but from what I've seen, those DIY (do it yourself) instructions
leave me with more questions than answers!
Anyway,
some people build them from junk parts to do it on the cheap and some
people go all out spending many thousands of dollars. Some are built because
the builder simply wants to fire it up and abuse it and make it glow red
hot or whatever their goal is!
Why
did I want to build a jet engine? I wanted to test alternative fuels and
my plasma ignition systems.
My
jet engine was intended to run efficiently and should be able to run at
a very low RPM while running cool at the same time. Most people building
jet engines will argue that it is either impossible or stupid to build
a low rpm jet engine, but they haven't considered everything.
The
purpose of HOW TO BUILD A JET ENGINE is not to delve into
the world of alternative fuels, plasma ignition systems, or power generation
- it is to show you HOW TO BUILD A JET ENGINE. For simple
practical purposes, it will run on propane and use a standard spark ignition
system because that is all that is needed. And that is enough to have
a WHOLE LOT OF FUN!!!
When
I got started, I really didn't know very much about jet engines. I did
some research and found it is actually one of the simplest engines there
is. And, there are hundreds if not thousands of people from all walks
of life making home made jet engines all around the world.
What
I also found was that there wasn't a very clear specific way but many
ways that people basically have to figure out themselves based on what
they have available to them and so on.
The
how-to info on how to make a jet engine is really all over the internet
for anyone that wants to spend the time figuring it all out on their own.
There is a lot of information to comb through, countless things to consider,
what fuel to use, where to get the parts and so on.
There
is also one very crucial part to making your own turbojet engine and if
you just do it the way everyone else is doing it, you won't wind up with
a very efficient turbojet engine. There are a few crucial things that
greatly improves the efficiency as well. These are revealed in these videos
and I don't see anyone discussing them in the public forums.
One
thing to keep in mind is ALWAYS SAFETY FIRST.
Some things are common sense and some are not. I am releasing this video
package for INFORMATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. If you attempt
to build anything based on this video package, you assume 100% of all
responsibility for your own actions.
Building
your own jet engine and running it can potentially kill you if a high
speed part breaks off and goes flying at your head or you have a propane
leak and explode your garage with you in it, etc... I'm just saying, this
is not about building some sculpure that sits there looking pretty - it
is about building and running a JET ENGINE and that is to be taken very
seriously.

Overview
of how a turbocharger works, while revealing the similiarities between
a turbocharger and a jet engine.
|
 |
How
to turn a turbocharger from a gas or diesel engine into a jet engine.
|
 |
How
to build a safe combustion chamber where all the action takes place
and how to safely mount a turbocharger to it.

A
flame tube that is highly efficient and was designed by the inventor
of the world's most efficient heat exchanger.

Learn
about a basic test stand to mount everything on.
|
 |
A
solid and safe way to mount the turbocharger to the end plates of
the combustion chamber.

An
example of a simple exahaust pipe with nozzle.
|
 |
A fuel system that has consideration for future secondary or alternative
fuels that can be used to run your jet engine.
|
 |
A simple
oil system that will keep your turbo in good shape. It also runs
on a single 12v battery.
|
 |
I reference
a plasma ignition system in some parts of the videos but I'm showing
you a schematic that will work for a very simple spark ignition
since that is all that is needed.

 |
You can
see a basic test run. The exhaust is cool enough that I can put
my hand 2 feet from the nozzle where the exahust is coming out.
